03/31/2025

On March 18, 2025, James Lane, 44, of Booneville, and Lisa Smalling, 46, of Greenwood, were arrested pursuant to a narcotics investigation by Logan County Sheriff's Office Investigator Howard Bates.  After receiving information about Lane, members of the Logan County Sheriff's Office, Arkansas State Police, Booneville Police Department, and Magazine Police Department were out looking for Lane when an Arkansas State Trooper located Lane's vehicle on the side of State Highway 10 west of Booneville.  The trooper then found Lane and Smalling walking down the highway carrying some bags.  Lane was arrested on a previous warrant.  Investigator Bates and the rest of us arrived on scene.  In their bags, Investigator Bates found six clear plastic bags containing a crystal substance appeared to be methamphetamines and a sandwich bag of vegetable matter substance that appeared to be psilocybin mushrooms (psychedelic shrooms).  We also seized approximately $1,200.00 in cash.  Lane and Smalling were arrested and transported to the Logan County Detention Center.

Lane and Smalling were booked in on the presumptive charges of Possession of Methamphetamine with Purpose to Deliver, Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The crystal substance was field-tested and showed a presumptive positive reaction as methamphetamine with an approximate weight of 3.7 ounces. The suspected mushrooms had an approximate weight of 12 grams. All contraband was logged into evidence and the crystal substance and suspected mushrooms will be forwarded to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for further testing.

On March 19, 2025, the Logan County Sheriff's Office with the assistance of Probation/Parole agents, Booneville Police Department, and an agent with the 15th Judicial Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence on Goff Road west of Booneville. The search warrant was based on a narcotics investigation into Michael Bumgarner, 62, and James Lane, 44, trafficking methamphetamine in the Booneville area.  The residence at Goff Road belongs to Bumgarner who was arrested the previous evening by Booneville police and was in custody at the Logan County Detention Center at the time of the search warrant.  During the execution of the search warrant, we found a plastic bag containing a white crystal rock that appeared to be methamphetamines in a safe along with numerous small empty plastic bags.  Drug paraphernalia including a set of digital scales, smoking devices, a spoon with white residue, and a loaded syringe were found in the residence.  The crystal rock seized was field-tested and showed a presumptive positive reaction as methamphetamine with an approximate weight of 9 grams. The contraband will be forwarded to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for further testing.
