Full Body Scanner Installed at the Detention Center

02/28/2025

The Logan County Sheriff's Office and Detention Center just received our new Soter RS full body scanner. This is a head-to-toe scanner that detects contraband throughout the body. It detects all kinds of material including metals, organics, wood, and plastics. The scanner shows a clear difference between human tissue and other materials. Even ingested or camouflaged items will be detected.

Even though inmates are searched extensively before they are placed in a cell, there is no sure method of finding contraband that is hidden in body cavities or that is ingested. We require all inmates to squat and cough but that does not work very well if contraband is hidden within a body cavity. In our Detention Center, inmates have brought in illegal drugs that were either ingested or shoved into a body cavity and then they used the illegal drugs inside the Detention Center. There have been other jails where inmates have died of overdoses.

With this body scanner, this will greatly assist in finding contraband and in helping save the lives of inmates who have ingested these substances.

We are always striving to make the Logan County Detention Center a safe, secure, and clean place and to protect both our staff and the inmates. A big thanks to the Logan County Quorum Court for appropriating the funds to purchase it.
