Recent Arrests

On November 25, 2024, Logan County Sheriff's Office/Magazine Police Officer Jim Elkins was dispatched to an address on North Petit Jean Street in Magazine. Upon arrival, he spoke with the caller who is a member of the Bikers Against Child Predators out of Indiana. The caller told Officer Elkins that he is investigating Johnny Ray Hice, 65, who was supposed to meet up with a female minor who identified herself online as a 12-year-old juvenile. Officer Elkins spoke with Johnny and read him his Miranda rights. Johnny then spoke with Officer Elkins and showed him a text message on his phone containing a picture of a nude female that Johnny believed was 12- or 13-years-old. After seeing the photo on his phone, Officer Elkins placed him under arrest and transported him to the Logan County Detention Center and he was booked in on the anticipated charge of Distributing, Possessing, or Viewing of Matter Depicting Sexually Explicit Conduct Involving a Child, a Class C felony. Johnny's phone was seized and sent to have the phone data extracted from it. More charges are expected once we receive the results of the phone extraction.
 
On November 21, 2024, Logan County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Investigator Howard Bates received information that Trista Norris, 38, was staying in an abandoned trailer on Turkey Ridge Road. She is on parole with a search waiver on file and has an absconder warrant out of Board of Parole. Investigator Bates, Deputy Jasper Franklin, and Magazine Police Chief Brett Chappell went to the trailer and spoke with Trista and William Barnes, 35, of Magazine. Trista was arrested on the warrant and both subjects were removed from the trailer. Investigator Bates located a plastic smoking device, a glass plate, and a mirror all with crystal substances on them that is suspected to be methamphetamine and two plastic Ziplock bags containing substances that had the appearance and odor of marijuana. William was also arrested and both subjects were transported to the Logan County Detention Center and booked in on controlled substances and drug paraphernalia charges.
 
On November 19, 2024, Logan County Sheriff's Office Deputy Caleb Hyatt was dispatched to a residence on Shale Pit Road near Ratcliff and arrested Zechariah Reynolds, 42, for violation of a no contact order. He resisted when Deputy Hyatt arrested him and was also charged with Resisting Arrest. Zechariah had just been released from our jail that day after being arrested by Deputy Dylan Parr on November 15th for violating a no contact order on the same person and for misdemeanor Assault on a Family or Household Member in the Third Degree for hitting the person.
 
On November 12, 2024, Magazine Police Chief Brett Chappell received information that Seth Terry, 31, was in possible possession of a gray Nissan four-door car that was reported stolen out of Florida. Chief Chappell and Investigator Howard Bates went to a residence on Powell Street in Magazine and saw the stolen vehicle at that residence. Seth was inside the residence and he is on probation with a search waiver on file. They found a handgun inside the stolen vehicle and after running the handgun through A.C.I.C., they discovered that it was stolen out of Ozark. Also, Seth is a convicted felon and cannot possess a firearm. They found another handgun in the vehicle as well. Seth was arrested and transported to the Logan County Detention Center and booked in on the anticipated charges of Theft of Receiving (x2) and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
