Vehicle Pursuit on Kalamazoo Road near Paris

07/24/2024

On July 23, 2024, Logan County Sheriff's Office Patrol Sergeant Charly Moua stopped a pick-up truck for going 85 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone on Union Road near Paris. The truck turned onto Kalamazoo Road and attempted to hide at a residence.  Sgt. Moua found the truck and got out to speak with the driver.  When he asked for the driver's name, the driver drove off in his truck at a high rate of speed.  Sgt. Moua got back in his vehicle and pursued the vehicle north on Kalamazoo Road.  The driver then pulled into another residence on Kalamazoo Road and refused to get out of the vehicle even though he was told multiple times to do so.  Chief Deputy Josh Scott and I arrived and the driver still refused to exit the truck even after he was told multiple times he was under arrest for felony fleeing.  We then removed him from the truck and he resisted the arrest.  Deputy Dylan Parr arrived and helped.  The driver was handcuffed, leg shackled, and transported to the Logan County Detention Center and booked in on the presumptive charges of felony fleeing, resisting arrest, speeding, driving with a suspended driver's license, careless and prohibited driving, possession of an open container of alcohol, and obstructing governmental operations.  His vehicle was towed.  The driver was identified as Benjamin Stewart, 31, of Paris, and he also has a felony warrant out of Booneville, a felony warrant from Broward County, Florida (with full extradition), and misdemeanor warrants from Paris and Sebastian County.
