On July 17, 2024, Investigator Howard Bates, Magazine Police Chief Brett Chappell, and Probation/Prole officers went to a residence on Powell Street in Magazine looking for Seth Terry to conduct a parole compliance check. Seth was at the residence and they found a bag containing approximately 5 grams of a crystal substance alleged to be methamphetamine, a small metal cylinder on a key chain containing a white crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine, a brand-new crossbow suspected of being stolen from Walmart, and drug paraphernalia items including digital scales. Seth was arrested and transported to the Logan County Detention Center. He was booked in on the presumptive charges of Possession of Meth GT 2 grams but less than 10 grams with Purpose to Deliver, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with Purpose to Manufacture, and Theft by Receiving over $1,000. All of the contraband was seized and the crystal substances were field-tested and showed a presumptive positive reaction as methamphetamine. The crystal substances and digital scales will be forwarded to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for further testing.
 
On July 13, 2024, the Logan County Sheriff's Office received a report of the theft of a 18-foot trailer from a residence on Cox Valley Road in central Logan County. Jason Dinkel, 45, of Magazine, was given as a suspect. He was arrested on that day on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant from Magazine. On July 17th, Investigator Howard Bates, Magazine Police Chief Brett Chappell, and Probation/Prole officers went to a residence on Powell Street in Magazine looking for Seth Terry to conduct a compliance check. They found the stolen trailer in the woods behind the house. They also found evidence linking Jason Dinkel to the theft. Since Jason was still in the Detention Center on the Magazine warrant, Investigator Bates interviewed him regarding the new evidence and then booked him in with the presumptive charge of Theft of Property for the stolen trailer.
 
On July 11, 2024, the Logan County Sheriff's Office received a report of a theft of a Lifetime kayak from a residence in Delaware in eastern Logan County. The homeowner provided pictures of two suspects from a game camera. Deputy Arnaldo Caraballo distributed the photos to other law enforcement agencies and he received the names of both subjects. Through his investigation, he determined that Alton Mallett, 43, of Dardanelle, was the primary person responsible. Deputy Caraballo, Lt. Mark Walker, and Inv. Chris Langston then found Alton and recovered the kayak. Since the charges are misdemeanors, Alton was cited for Theft of Property and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree (for painting the kayak).
 
On June 19, 2024, the Logan County Sheriff's Office received a report of a theft of a welder and trailer from a farmer's field off State Highway 109 near Magazine. The suspect had cut a chain at a gate to access the property. Investigator Howard Bates received information on who was involved. He recovered the welder and trailer. Two suspects have been identified and one, William Barnes, 35, of Booneville, was arrested on separate charges and the presumptive charges of Theft of Property, Criminal Trespass, and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree are added to the other charges. We are pursuing a felony arrest warrant for the other suspect.
 
On June 19, 2024, Investigator Howard Bates conducted a traffic stop near the Arkota Store in central Logan County on a vehicle driven by William David Barnes, 35, of Booneville, for driving with a suspended driver's license. Also, the license plate did not belong to the vehicle and was determined to be stolen. The vehicle did not have insurance. In looking at the license plate sticker that shows the date of registration, Investigator Bates saw that the sticker was altered to show a different date. Deputy Jasper Franklin assisted him on the traffic stop. During a search of the vehicle, they found an unmarked prescription pill bottle with several pills that appeared to be Gabapentin which is a prescription drug. William did not have a prescription and the mediations were not in a proper original prescription container so the bottle and pills were seized. William was transported to the Logan County Detention Center and booked in on the anticipated charges of: Driving with a Suspended Driver's License, No Proof of Liability of Insurance, Failure to Register Vehicle, Possession of Misbranded Drugs, False Evidence of Title or Registration, and Theft by Receiving.
 
On June 7, 2024, the Logan County Sheriff's Office received a report of a Polaris side-by-side that was stolen from a house on Dublin Road near Scranton. The Polaris was found a few days later in Paris. Through an investigation by Investigator Chris Langston, Kara Gregory, 40, of Subiaco, was arrested for the theft of the Polaris and was incarcerated in the Logan County Detention Center for the presumptive charge of Theft of Property. Inv. Langston was also assisted by the Paris Police Department.
